Introduction

Every day, the United States immigration system is used by people from all over the world. Some come for a visit, some for work, and others to reunite with family members. The United States has always been a welcoming place for immigrants, and that tradition continues today.

In recent years, however, the immigration system has become increasingly overloaded and backlogged. This has led to delays in processing applications and an overall increase in wait times. In addition, the current administration has implemented a number of changes that have made it more difficult for people to immigrate to the United States.

If you or someone you know is considering immigrating to the United States, it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest news and developments. This way, you can be prepared for any changes that may impact your ability to immigrate. Keep reading for an overview of some of the most important immigration news stories from recent months.

What’s Happening Now

The Trump administration has been working hard to implement its immigration agenda. In the past few months, we’ve seen an increase in ICE raids, the implementation of the travel ban, and more. Let’s take a look at what’s been happening in the USA with regards to immigration.

The executive order

On January 27, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that temporarily bars citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries – Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen – from entering the United States. The order also suspends the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days and bans Syrian refugees indefinitely.

The order has sparked widespread protests and criticism from civil rights groups, politicians and business leaders. Several lawsuits have been filed challenging the constitutionality of the ban, and a federal judge in Seattle has issued a nationwide temporary restraining order blocking its enforcement.

The executive order has caused confusion and anxiety for many immigrants and legal residents in the United States. If you or someone you know is affected by the order, here are some resources that can help:

The travel ban

The Trump administration has issued a new travel ban that suspends the issuance of visas to citizens of Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. The proclamation also suspends the issuance of immigrant visas to citizens of those countries. The new travel ban goes into effect on October 18, 2017 and will remain in effect until December 31, 2018.

The travel ban was originally issued in January 2017 but was blocked by federal courts. The new travel ban includes several changes that the administration hopes will address the legal concerns that led to the blocking of the original ban. For example, the new ban exempts people who already have valid visas, and it exempts people who have dual citizenship with a second country that is not included in the travel ban.

The wall

With the current administration in office, one of the most talked about topics is immigration and more specifically, the building of a wall between the United States and Mexico.

This topic is highly controversial with many people arguing for and against the wall. The proponents of the wall argue that it will help to control the flow of immigrants into the United States and make it more difficult for people to cross the border illegally. Opponents of the wall argue that it is a waste of money and that it will not be effective in controlling immigration.

The issue is still being debated and there is no clear consensus on what should be done. The administration has started to build prototypes of the wall but it is unclear if or when this will be completed.

What’s Happening Next

There are a lot of people who are interested in what is happening with immigration in the United States. The current situation is that there are a lot of people who are trying to come into the country, but the government is not letting them in. This is causing a lot of problems for the people who are trying to come into the country, and it is also causing a lot of problems for the people who are already in the country.

The supreme court

A case challenging the Trump administration’s policy of forcing asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for their U.S. court hearings will go before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, tests how receptive the justices will be to the president’s hardline immigration agenda.

The administration has argued that the Migrant Protection Protocols, as the policy is formally known, is necessary to reduce a flood of Central American asylum-seekers arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. But lower courts have ruled that the policy violates federal law and put a hold on it while legal challenges play out.

The case, Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California, will be argued by telephone because of the coronavirus pandemic. It will mark only the second time in history that arguments have been conducted by telephone, following a one-time experiment in May during another border case.

Congress

The United States Congress is the bicameral legislature of the federal government of the United States, and consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Congress meets in the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Both senators and representatives are chosen through direct election, though vacancies in the Senate may be filled by a gubernatorial appointment. Members are usually affiliated to the Republican Party or to the Democratic Party, and only rarely to a third party or as independents.

Congress has 535 voting members: 435 representatives and 100 senators. In addition there are six non-voting members: five delegates representing Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands; and one resident commissioner representing Puerto Rico. Congress has six non-voting members: five delegates representing Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands; and one resident commissioner representing Puerto Rico.

The House of Representatives is composed of 435 voting members, each of whom represents a congressional district (depending on population size) and serves a two-year term. House seats are apportioned among the states by population every ten years through an process known as “gerrymandering”. There are no term limits for House members. The Senate is composed of 100 senators, two from each state regardless of population size. Each senator serves a six-year term with no limit on how many terms they can serve.

Local level

On the local level, many cities and states have been declaring themselves “sanctuary cities” in an effort to protect undocumented immigrants from being deported by federal immigration agents. In some cases, these sanctuary cities have refused to hand over undocumented immigrants to ICE agents when they come knocking. This has caused a lot of tension between local and federal government officials.

In addition, there have been a number of rallies and protests against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. These have been happening all over the country, and they seem to be getting bigger and more frequent.

Finally, there are a number of lawsuits that have been filed against the Trump administration over its immigration policies. Some of these lawsuits are still working their way through the courts, while others have already been decided.
