United Airlines is suspending all flights between India and the United States starting Sunday night due to the coronavirus pandemic, the airline announced Saturday.
The suspension will continue through at least April 24 and possibly longer, United said. The move comes as India grapples with a surge in coronavirus infections, becoming the third-worst hit country after the US and Brazil.
“After a thorough review of our schedules, we have decided to suspend our India service due to continued soft demand,” United Airlines said in a statement.
The airline had already suspended its Mumbai-Newark flight last week. With the latest suspension, United will have no flights to or from India.
Other airlines such as Delta and American have also cut back on their India service in recent weeks amid the surge in infections.
