The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast can expect a few days of respite from the relentless rain that has soaked the region this week, but7 more inches (18 centimeters) of rain are possible in some areas by early next week, says the National Weather Service.
The same goes for the South, which is also seeing a break from the rain that has caused widespread flooding. But that’s just a lull: More showers and thunderstorms are expected early next week. The heaviest rains are expected to fall in northern Florida and southern Georgia, where 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters) of rain are possible.
As for the Midwest, it looks like it’s going to be a dry weekend, with highs in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit (teens and low 20s Celsius). But starting Sunday night and lasting into Monday, another system could bring strong storms with gusty winds, large hail and even tornadoes to parts of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
