President Joe Biden

President Joe Biden is the current President of the United States of America. The 46th president of the United States, he was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 20, 1942. He has served as a U.S. Senator from run for office.

Inauguration

Former Vice President Joe Biden was officially sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday, immediately reversing several of his predecessor’s controversial policies and vowing to unify a nation sharply divided after four years of President Donald Trump’s polarizing leadership.

“It’s a new day in America,” Biden said in his first speech as president.

“I will be a president for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not,” Biden pledged. “I ask you to judge me by the enemies I’ve made.”

Within hours of taking the oath of office, Biden signed a slew of executive orders aimed at undoing some of Trump’s most controversial policies, including reentering the U.S. into the Paris climate accord, pausing construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall and mandating that people wear masks on federal property to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Executive Orders

President Joe Biden has begun his term by issuing a series of Executive Orders to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing America.

His first Executive Order was aimed at increasing the production of personal protective equipment, or PPE, in order to combat the spread of coronavirus. The Order also includes measures to bolster the supply of vaccines and testing materials.

Other Executive Orders issued by President Biden include one that will raise the minimum wage for federal contractors to $15 per hour, and another that will reinstate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The Orders come as the new President looks to set a different tone from his predecessor, Donald Trump. In his first days in office, Biden has emphasized a return to bipartisanship and cooperation.

American Rescue Plan

The American Rescue Plan is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill proposed by President Joe Biden in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The legislation was introduced on January 28, 2021, and is currently being considered by the United States Congress. If enacted, it would provide approximately $1,400 direct stimulus payments to most American adults, as well as extend enhanced unemployment benefits through September 2021. The bill also includes provisions aimed at increasing vaccine distribution, supporting state and local governments, and increasing funding for K-12 education and childcare.
