Team USA Basketball

The United States men’s national basketball team is governed by USA Basketball. USA Basketball is a non-profit organization and the national governing body for men’s and women’s amateur basketball in the United States. USA Basketball is responsible for the selection and training of the men’s and women’s national teams that represent the U.S. in the Summer Olympics, the FIBA World Championships, and other international competitions. The United States has won a record 15 FIBA World Championships and 17 Olympic gold medals.

Team USA Basketball Roster

The following is the United States men’s national basketball team roster for the 2020 Summer Olympics – Tokyo. Head coach Gregg Popovich selected a preliminary 20-man roster on June 18, 2021. The final 12-man roster will be announced in July 2021, prior to the start of the Summer Olympics.

Team USA Basketball Schedule

The United States men’s national basketball team represents the United States in international men’s basketball. The team is the most successful in international play, winning medals in all sixteen Olympic tournaments it has entered, coming away with fifteen golds. In the professional era, the team won the FIBA World Championship in 1950, 1954 and 1994, and Won the FIBA Americas Championship in 2007. The team also won five other tournaments.

The United States men’s national basketball team won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The team defeated Serbia in the gold medal game, 96–66. It was the third consecutive gold medal for the United States.

Team USA Basketball vs. Australia

On Thursday morning, USA Basketball began its journey to defend its World Cup title with a 98-88 exhibition victory over Australia in Melbourne. The game was the first of five tune-ups for the United States before the World Cup begins on September 1 in China. In a game where both teams struggled to find their footing early on, it was the play of Kemba Walker and Khris Middleton that eventually sparked Team USA to pull away in the second half.

For Team USA, Walker led the way with 19 points and five assists, while Middleton chipped in 16 points and six rebounds off the bench. Australia was paced by Patty Mills, who scored 18 points, and Ben Simmons, who finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Team USA Basketball vs. France

The United States men’s basketball team beat France 100-97 in an exhibition game on Saturday, improving to 2-0 in its pre-World Cup warmup schedule.

Kemba Walker led the way for the U.S., scoring 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting. He also had five assists and five rebounds. Khris Middleton added 21 points, while Myles Turner had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The U.S. led by as many as 16 points in the second half, but France made it a game late with a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 95-93 with 1:30 remaining. However, Walker hit a clutch three-pointer with under a minute to play to put the U.S. up by five and ice the game.

The U.S. will now head to Australia for one more exhibition game against the Boomers on Aug. 24 before beginning World Cup play on Sept. 1 against the Czech Republic.

The game came down to the wire, with France mounting a late comeback to take a 97-96 lead with just seconds remaining. But U.S. star Carmelo Anthony would not be denied, nailing a game-winning three-pointer as time expired to send the Americans into the semifinals.
