Trump administration
The Trump administration is the current United States presidential administration, led by President Donald Trump. The Trump administration began on January 20, 2017, when Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States, succeeding Barack Obama.
Many of Trump’s cabinet nominees have been opposed by both Democratic and Republican senators. Several have been withdrawn prior to confirmation due to ethical concerns. On January 31, 2017, mass protests occurred across the U.S. in response to the executive order that Temporarily Barred Refugees and Foreign Nationals from Seven Muslim-Majority Countries from Entering the United States.
2020 presidential election
The 2020 United States presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020. It will be the 59th quadrennial presidential election. Voters will select presidential electors who in turn will vote on December 14, 2020, to either elect a new president and vice president or reelect the incumbents Donald Trump and Mike Pence respectively. The series of primary elections and caucuses are being held from February to August 2020. This nominating process is an indirect election, where voters cast ballots selecting a slate of delegates to a political party’s nominating convention, who then in turn elect their party’s nominees for president and vice president.
Economy
Stock market
The stock market is a collection of markets where stocks (pieces of ownership in businesses) are traded between investors. It usually refers to the exchanges where stocks and other securities are bought and sold. The stock market can be used to measure the performance of a whole economy, or particular sectors of it.
The size and value of the stock market varies from country to country. In the United States, the public markets—such as the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq—have a combined value of about US$30 trillion, making it the largest in the world. By contrast, China’s stock market is worth about US$7 trillion, while Japan’s is US$6 trillion.
Stock markets tend to be volatile, which means that their prices can go up and down a lot in a short space of time. This volatility can be caused by many factors, including changes in government policy, the health of the economy, or even natural disasters.
When stock prices go down, it’s called a bear market. When they go up, it’s called a bull market.
Unemployment
The U.S. labor market continued to strengthen in November, with the economy adding 228,000 jobs and the unemployment rate falling to a 17-year low of 4.1 percent, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The job gains were widespread across sectors, led by professional and business services, which added 81,000 jobs last month. Other sectors that saw strong gains included health care (up 31,000), manufacturing (up 25,000) and construction (up 24,000).
The unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a point in November as more people entered the labor force and found jobs. The overall labor force participation rate was unchanged at 62.7 percent last month.
Despite the strengthening job market, average hourly wages grew just 2.5 percent in November compared with a year earlier. That’s down from last month’s annual wage growth rate of 2.8 percent and below the 3-4 percent growth that is typical when the economy is near full employment.
COVID-19
The United States has now seen more cases of COVID-19 than any other country in the world with over 1.7 million confirmed infections and over 100,000 deaths. The virus has now spread to all 50 states and has resulted in widespread panic and economic turmoil. The death toll is expected to continue to rise in the coming weeks.
Cases in the US
There are now more than 2 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The US reached the 1 million mark just four weeks ago.
The country has also seen its death toll from the virus climb past 115,000. That’s more than any other nation in the world.
The US continues to lead the world in both the number of cases and the number of deaths, but the rate of growth appears to be slowing in some states.
Vaccine updates
The United States is in the process of distributing vaccines to eligible individuals per the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ guidelines. To date, over 60 million doses have been administered. The most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that nearly 10% of the US population has received one dose of vaccine, while close to 4% are fully vaccinated.

NBA
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a men’s professional basketball league in North America, composed of 30 teams (29 in the United States and 1 in Canada). It is widely considered to be the premier men’s professional basketball league in the world.
The NBA was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name of the National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with the competing National Basketball League (NBL). The league’s several international as well as individual team offices are directed out of its head offices located in the Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
NFL
The National Football League (NFL) is by far the most popular professional American football league, and it is also one of the largest professional sports leagues in the world. With 31 teams in the United States and one in Canada, the NFL has more teams than any other professional American football league. The NFL is also the richest professional American football league, with total revenue of $13 billion in 2017.
Weather
The weather across the United States is fairly mild today. However, there are some areas that are seeing colder than average temperatures. The Midwest and Northeast are seeing the brunt of the cold snap, with highs only in the 20s and 30s.
Winter storm warnings
The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for parts of the country as a winter weather system moves east. The warnings are in effect for areas of the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast. The storm is expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the region.
Snowfall totals could reach up to two feet in some areas, with the heaviest snowfall expected in areas of upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania. The storm is also expected to bring strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour.
The winter storm warnings come as the Northeast is still recovering from a nor’easter that hit the region last week. That storm left more than two million people without power and caused widespread damage.
