The channel was founded in 1996 by Tom Rogers and Steve Brill as a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC. The name MSNBC stands for “Microsoft-NBC.” The channel is now owned by Comcast, which also owns NBCUniversal.

History
ABC News is the news division of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), owned by the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. Its flagship program is the daily evening newscast ABC World News Tonight with David Muir; other programs include morning show Good Morning America, nightline, and Primetime.
ABC News is among the oldest US television networks, having been founded in 1943. Its origins can be traced back to radio station WJZ in Newark, New Jersey, which began broadcasting on September 7th, 1921. In 1928, WJZ was acquired by the newly formed NBC Blue Network. Six years later, it became part of the ABC Radio Network.
In 1944, ABC launched its first news program, titled World News Today. It was a 15-minute daily show that reported on US and international events using newsreels. In 1948, ABC expanded its news programming with the launch of Good Morning America. This was followed by other programs such as Nightline (1965) and Primetime (1989).

History
The CBS News division of CBS Corporation is headquartered in the CBS News Building at One World Trade Center in New York City. The network has its origins in United Independent Broadcasters, which was formed on September 18, 1927. UIB was created after Columbia Phonograph, National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and AT&T’s Radio Corporation of America (RCA) came to an agreement not to compete against each other for radio stations in the United States.
The newscast was created by Don Hewitt, who remained its executive producer for 52 years. In February 1963, Walter Cronkite succeeded Douglas Edwards as the anchor of the CBS Evening News, a position he would hold until his retirement in 1981. Among the other notable news anchor staff that have worked for CBS News over the years include: Edward R. Murrow, Howard K. Smith, Roger Mudd, Dan Rather, Bob Schieffer, Leslie Stahl and Scott Pelley.
CBS has been involved in numerous controversies relating to its news division throughout its history. In 1974, a major story broke that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon; this became known as the “Watergate scandal”. In 2004, CBS aired what would become known as the ” fake Memogate scandal”, which led to false reports being broadcast about then-President George W. Bush’s military service record during the Vietnam War.
